Mumal – The Epitome of Beauty and Wisdom

Mumal was a princess of Jaisalmer, renowned for her exceptional beauty, intelligence, and charm. Her enchanting looks and wit made her famous across the land.

Mumal and her sisters resided in a magnificent palace in Lodrawa (near Jaisalmer), designed with intricate mazes and illusions, making it nearly impossible for visitors to reach her easily. Many kings and princes attempted to win her heart but failed her challenging tests.

Mahendra – The Brave and Fearless Prince

Rana Mahendra, the prince of Amarkot (now in Pakistan), was a symbol of courage and valor. Upon hearing tales of Mumal’s beauty, he set out to meet her in Lodrawa.

With intelligence and bravery, Mahendra successfully crossed all the challenges of Mumal’s palace and won her love.

From that day, Mahendra and Mumal's love grew deeper, and every night, Mahendra would ride to her palace to be with her.

A Misunderstanding That Changed Everything

One fateful night, Mahendra set out to meet Mumal as usual. However, on the way, his horse became exhausted and collapsed. Left with no choice, he borrowed a camel from a shepherd, whose wife gave Mahendra her shawl to keep warm.

As Mahendra rode towards Mumal's palace, he was unknowingly wrapped in a woman’s shawl.

From the palace terrace, Mumal and her sisters saw Mahendra arriving with a woman’s shawl draped over him.

Thinking that Mahendra had betrayed her, Mumal was overcome with anger and heartbreak.

When Mahendra reached the palace, she refused to meet him.

Mahendra tried desperately to explain the truth, but Mumal, consumed by jealousy and rage, turned him away.

A Tragic End to True Love

Devastated and heartbroken, Mahendra left, unable to bear the false accusation.

Later, when Mumal realized the truth, she rushed to seek Mahendra’s forgiveness, but it was too late.

👉 Mahendra, broken by grief, had given up his life.

Upon hearing this, Mumal, in deep remorse, set herself ablaze in the flames of his funeral pyre, sacrificing her life for the love she had lost.

Thus, their love story became an eternal legend, teaching the world that misunderstanding and pride can destroy even the deepest love.
