Ganesh Ji Story (Simple English)

Once, Goddess Parvati created a boy from the sandalwood paste she used for her bath. She gave him life and named him Ganesha. She told him to guard the door while she bathed, and not to let anyone enter.

After some time, Lord Shiva, Parvati’s husband, came home. Ganesha did not know him and stopped him from entering. Shiva explained many times, but Ganesha firmly followed his mother’s orders.

Shiva became angry because no one had ever stopped him like this. In his anger, he cut off Ganesha’s head.

When Parvati came out and saw what had happened, she was heartbroken and furious. She told Shiva that unless Ganesha was brought back to life, she would destroy the entire world.

Realizing his mistake, Shiva sent his ganas (followers) to bring the head of the first living creature they found facing north. They found a baby elephant and brought its head. Shiva placed the elephant head on Ganesha’s body and brought him back to life.

Parvati was overjoyed.

Shiva then blessed Ganesha and said:

  • “You will be known as Ganapati, leader of the ganas.”

  • “You will be worshipped first before any other god.”

  • “People will remember you as the god of wisdom, success, and new beginnings.”

Since then, devotees pray to Lord Ganesha before starting any important work.
