Once a poor woodcutter accidentally dropped his axe into a river. A river spirit appeared and offered him a golden axe and a silver axe. But the woodcutter refused them, saying they were not his. Impressed by his honesty, the spirit gave him all three axes.

A hare always mocked a slow tortoise. One day, the tortoise challenged the hare to a race. Confident of winning, the hare took a nap during the race, while the tortoise steadily kept moving and won.

A lion caught a tiny mouse but let it go. Later, the lion got trapped in a hunter’s net. The mouse returned and chewed the ropes to free the lion.

Moral: It’s easy to despise what you cannot have.

5. The Bundle of Sticks

A father showed his sons a bundle of sticks and asked them to break it. None could. Then he untied the sticks and gave them one by one. They broke easily.

Moral: Unity is strength.
