Brihaspativar Vrat Katha (Thursday Fast Story)

A long time ago, there lived a wealthy merchant in a city. He had great riches and all material comforts, but he was very greedy and did not follow religious practices. His wife, on the other hand, was kind, devoted, and deeply religious.

Every Thursday (Brihaspativar), she observed a fast and worshipped Lord Vishnu and Brihaspati Dev with full devotion. A holy sage had once advised her that observing this fast brings happiness, prosperity, and removes difficulties from life. She followed this advice sincerely.

Her husband, however, did not believe in such practices. He discouraged her from fasting, saying it was unnecessary. Out of respect for her husband, she stopped observing the fast.

Soon after, the merchant’s business began to decline. His wealth reduced, and the family started facing hardships and sorrow. They became worried and unhappy.

One day, the same sage visited their home again and explained that their misfortune was due to stopping the Brihaspativar vrat. He advised the wife to resume the fast with full devotion.

The wife restarted the Thursday fast and worshipped Lord Vishnu and Brihaspati Dev with faith and dedication. Gradually, their difficulties began to disappear. The merchant’s business improved, and prosperity returned to their home.

From then on, both husband and wife began observing the Brihaspativar vrat regularly and lived a peaceful and prosperous life.
